AnyWord
Balkan, Eric
$35
#27479/1238
is a general text indexing and retrieval program similar to ZyIndex and Memory
Mate. Anyword creates an index of a text file much like the index of a book.
Then the next time you want to quickly locate information, Anyword uses the
index to do so. Programs limits are about 1 million characters of text spread
over up to 254 files. Anyword will search on either a word or a combination of
words. It allows Boolean operators in the search (AND - OR - NOT). It allows
wild cards in the target word(s). Anyword is not a quick and dirty word-search
utility. If you just want to search a bunch of files for some specific text,
you can use something like FGREP. Anyword is a powerful, multi-featured text
retrieval system.
Concord and Indexer
$?
#27479/0760
are used to generate an index for a document. CONCORD will tabulate up to 1500
words, from 3 to 20 characters each, and will list the number of times each
word appears in the text. The resultant word list is alphabetized and output
to a file. INDEXER reads the word list, and compares every word on the list to
the lines of your manuscript. It contains provisions for multiple occurrences
of any of the words on a single page, or it will, at your option, ignore all
occurrences except the first on each page. This may be very useful in
preparing the text itself, because the writer can see where and how often a
certain word or term is used.
The INDEXER program will accept up to a maximum of 1000 words (which seems a
little odd since CONCORD will generate a 1500-word list) and will record up to
12 page numbers on which those words occur. The user should of course select
only the important words of a text, which usually occur far less times than
the maximum count.
PC-Index
Help Software
$48
#27479/1838

for several word processors such as WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Multimate,
Wordstar, and Wordstar 2000; increased size of word lists; up to four columns
in the index; an option to extract only capitalized words; no-case conversion;
and an option to turn indexing on and off within a document. Requires 384k DOS
RAM.
dtSearch 2.01
DT Software, Inc. ASP
$104
